If Koreans make popcorn rice, they use leftover rice processed with canola oil, and complement it with melted chocolate. I want to share a recipe with a local touch. Even using the leftover rice from yesterday that was not planned, rather than being wasteful. It’s a tradition to avoid wasting food, just like our ancestors used to say.
Popcorn Rice
By @Elliyah Lim
Ingredients:
A bowl of leftover rice (any amount of leftover rice you have at home)
3 tablespoons of granulated sugar dissolved in 50 ml of water
Steps:
- Dry the leftover rice under the sun until it becomes dry.
- Then fry the dried rice until it pops.
- Repeat until all the rice is popped.
- Divide into 2 portions.
- Leave one portion as the original taste.
- Heat a pan and pour the sugar solution to make caramel.
- Add the other portion of the popcorn rice.
- Stir until well-coated.
- Now you have the sweet version.
My friends say it’s delicious, but I’m not really into it.
