If Koreans make popcorn rice, they use leftover rice processed with canola oil, and complement it with melted chocolate. I want to share a recipe with a local touch. Even using the leftover rice from yesterday that was not planned, rather than being wasteful. It’s a tradition to avoid wasting food, just like our ancestors used to say.

Popcorn Rice

Ingredients:
A bowl of leftover rice (any amount of leftover rice you have at home)
3 tablespoons of granulated sugar dissolved in 50 ml of water

Steps:

  1. Dry the leftover rice under the sun until it becomes dry.
  2. Then fry the dried rice until it pops.
  3. Repeat until all the rice is popped.
  4. Divide into 2 portions.
  5. Leave one portion as the original taste.
  6. Heat a pan and pour the sugar solution to make caramel.
  7. Add the other portion of the popcorn rice.
  8. Stir until well-coated.
  9. Now you have the sweet version.

My friends say it’s delicious, but I’m not really into it.
