What is Aphasia

Aphasia is a condition that causes sufferers to experience communication disorders. This condition can be caused by a stroke, head injury, brain tumor, or other disease.

A language disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate. It can occur suddenly after a stroke or head injury, or arise slowly from a growing brain tumor or disease. Aphasia affects a person’s ability to express and understand spoken and written language.
Once the underlying cause is treated, the main treatment for aphasia is speech therapy.

The recommended treatment for aphasia is usually speech and language therapy. Sometimes aphasia improves on its own without treatment. This treatment is carried out by a speech and language therapist (SLT). If you were admitted to hospital, there should be a speech and language therapy team there.
