The Dutch government will send military equipment to Ukraine including sniper rifles and helmets to defend against possible Russian attacks. The Dutch Foreign Ministry said the only lethal weaponry that the Dutch government would send to Ukraine consisted of 100 sniper rifles with 30,000 rounds of ammunition.
The Netherlands will also supply 3,000 combat helmets and 2,000 armored vests “for personal protection of vital body parts”, the ministry said.
The Netherlands will further supply 30 metal detectors, two robots to detect sea mines, two battlefield surveillance radars and five weapons location radars that help troops know where fire is coming from.
Earlier in January, the German government said it would not send weapons to Ukraine, but offered to send 5,000 helmets in exchange. The move was denounced as an “absolute joke” by Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
