Putri Salju (or Snow White) is a popular Indonesian dessert made from fried dough that is coated in powdered sugar to resemble snow. Here’s a simple recipe for making Putri Salju:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup of powdered sugar, plus more for coating
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cornstarch, salt, and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
- Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Heat the oil in a deep pan or a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the dough balls in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Roll the fried dough balls in powdered sugar until completely coated.
- Serve the Putri Salju immediately or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
Note: You can also add a bit of cinnamon or cardamom to the dough for extra flavor. Additionally, you can make the Putri Salju ahead of time and coat them in powdered sugar just before serving.
