Putri Salju (or Snow White) is a popular Indonesian dessert made from fried dough that is coated in powdered sugar to resemble snow. Here’s a simple recipe for making Putri Salju:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup of powdered sugar, plus more for coating
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cornstarch, salt, and baking powder.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  6. Heat the oil in a deep pan or a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry the dough balls in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Roll the fried dough balls in powdered sugar until completely coated.
  10. Serve the Putri Salju immediately or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

Note: You can also add a bit of cinnamon or cardamom to the dough for extra flavor. Additionally, you can make the Putri Salju ahead of time and coat them in powdered sugar just before serving.
